.................... Hayama - Vol 2, Chp 7
Relationship
One of the elements that made Kodocha so popular is, without doubt, the unique relationship
that the two main characters, Akito and Sana, share.
They contrast each other totally in personality - Hayama Akito, the uncaring and cold troublemaker.
Kurata Sana, the eccentric and hyper optimist. They seem to contradict each other too much for there to even be
a relationship! But are they really what they seem? One thing special about these two is that they bring out different
sides of themselves when they are together.
Sana is a child actress, a very good one at that. So good that she was able to bury all her sorrowful
emotions deep inside and acting her best to be happy and care-free; trying to be a "good kid". When she met Akito, most
likely she was seeing her buried emotions conveyed as a person - except instead of burying those feelings, Akito did the
exact opposite - he took it out on his classmates. It was so bad for him that he asked Sana to kill him. Sana being Sana, showed compassion;
she solved the conflict he was having with his family, and healed his heart until he appreciated the things around him
and actually wanted to live - because he had a reason for living. His talents, friends, family, and most of all, Sana herself.
Akito started to open his heart to her, and the once inpenetrable wall he built around himself was worn down.
His eyes that once contained only hatred, softened. He started developing feelings for her, and when asked why he kissed
her, he replied, "I don't hate you." Which as we all know, means "I love you" in Akito's monkey language vocabulary :).
The healing wasn't only on Sana's part. Hayama realized even someone as happy as Sana could be saddened.
He was the first and only one who saw through her act - and with words of comfort and a promise that he would be there for
her no matter what, he healed her as well. When she wanted to cry, she would no longer have to hide it anymore - she could
go to him. They are essential to each other's happiness; one can't live blissfully without the other. Their many separations could not break
their bond, be it millions of kilometres or countless years. In fact, their being apart only did the opposite, and
strengthened their relationship. Through those separations, they may encounter new friends, enemies, and possibly new
romantic partners, but truly, no one could replace their roles in each others' lives - not Fuuka, not Naozumi
(and certainly not Rei or Tsuyoshi :P).

For Akito and Sana, there is only "the beginning" instead of "the end". They've overcome what most
adult couples could never handle - and they overcame those ordeals together.
