Kurata Sana

Sana in the manga Sana in the anime Name: Kurata Sana (last, first)
Age: 11 (at the start of series)
Birthday: March 7th
Blood Type: O
Hair: Brown/Maroon
Eyes: Brown
Family: Kurata Misako (foster mother), Sakai Keiko (biological mother), Sakai Mariko (biological sister)

Kurata Sana is the heroine of the series, and a talented young actress. She stars in a popular TV show called Kodocha or Child's Toy (hence the manga's name). Although Sana doesn't look it at times, she's very mature and adult-like for her age. Her mother, Kurata Misako, is an award-winning author, and an avid collector of weird hats. Mix in Rei, her bodyguard, agent, and "pimp", a kind maid, plus a hyperactive squirrel, and you'll know that life at the Kurata house is anything but ordinary. It seems to have affected Sana a great deal though, as Sana herself is quite unique; after all, she was the only one brave enough to stand up to the boss monkey of her sixth grade class. While Akito leads the group of boys, cheerful and chipper Sana is what you can call the "leader" amongst the girls. But is Sana's happiness real? Or is just an act?

Kurata Misako's newest book, entitled My Daughter And I, revealed that Sana was not her biological daughter. Eleven years ago, Misako found a newborn baby crying, wrapped in cloth and left carelessly on a park bench. That baby was, of course, Sana. And soon, Sakai Keiko, claiming to be her biological mother, steps into the scene. She reveals that she had Sana when she was 14, and that Sana's biological father is her uncle (now deceased). She seems quite content now with her present family, and bears no grudge to Keiko. Instead, Sana's grateful that she gave birth to her, which shows you just what kind of person Sana is.

And "that kind of person" definitely isn't the "calm and quiet" type, like Hayama is. The girl has an unlimited supply of energy, and half the time, you'd think she's on crack or sugar or something. She's very blunt, and isn't afraid to tell you something straight to your face. And although she can be kind and caring, she can't help but lose her temper at times, especially when someone insults or aggravates her. She'll yell at you and will absolutely lose it, often attacking someone with her Komawari moves, or bonking them over the head with her trusty mallet.

Sana tends to hide her sorrow, as she doesn't want anyone taking the "trouble" to worry about her. And because she's an actress, she's able to do it pretty well. Hayama was the first, and probably the only one who saw through her greatest act.
