Their Story
Where you'll find a good, strong couple-be they real or fictional-you'll also find a
good story to go along with them. So it's really no surprise that Akito and Sana's story-aka the main plot
of Kodocha-is hailed as one of the best in the world of shoujo manga.
Here you'll find me attempting to retell to you their story, divided into sections. Click the
pictures in order to find out the story told in each one. Please bear the missing sections for now; after all,
this is the whole of Kodocha's plotline I'm trying to summarize!
The Beginning
What does it cover?Volume 1, chapters 1-6; volume 2, chapter 7
Featuring:
• Showdown: class bully Akito vs class savior Sana!
• Sana's strategy: Team up with Tsuyoshi, convince him to pull Akito's pants down, and quickly snap a photo for blackmail.
• More sixth grade angst!
• Sana swabs Akito's ear with a common stick!
• Sana saves the Hayama family a fortune on therapy by producing a close-to-heart drama.
• The former class bully develops a crush on the class savior.
Lemon Kiss
What does it cover?Volume 2, chapter 8-10
Featuring:
• Showdown: newly infatuated Akito vs Sana's 20-year-old boyfriend/manager/pimp, Rei!
• Akito unexpectedly plants one on Sana; hello, first kiss!
• Rei gets back together with his high school sweetheart, actress Kurumi Asako, leaving Sana heartbroken.
• Akito plays Sana's therapist as he asks her to get real about her relationship with Rei (more romantic than it sounds).
• The two make up as Akito tells of his "non-hate" for Sana. :)
Consolation
What does it cover?Volume 3, chapter 13-14
Featuring:
• Hoorah for sixth grade overnight camping trips!
• A family dilemma brews up between Sana and her mother.
• "Sometimes I think that all your happiness and energy is just an act." Dr. Phil, meet Hayama Akito.
• Sana cries in front of Akito; Akito smiles (really smiles) for Sana. Also, he can blush!
• A plethora of 'aww' moments as we see Akito struggle to bring out his inner teddy bear.
A Place of Refuge
What does it cover?Volume 3, chapter 15-17; volume 4, chapter 18-19
Featuring:
• Meet Akito's newest rival for Sana's love, Kamura Naozumi.
• Akito decides to take up karate.
• As the Kurata family dilemma deepens, Akito gatecrashes Sana's house and whisks her away from the ensuing familial tension. On a bike. Then, Sana sleeps over at the Hayama home!
• Fun fact: Sana has three adjacent birth marks on her butt.
• Sana and Akito meet her biological mother, Sakai Keiko.
• "You stayed with Sana all that time, didn't you? Thank you."
Birthday Gifts
What does it cover?Volume 4, chapter 20-21
Featuring:
• Joint birthday parties are always cool.
• Watch Akito stress out trying to find the perfect gift for Sana!
• Fortunately, he finds, at the last minute, the 'perfect' gift anyway... or maybe not.
